Reading a Good Book and Pleasure Reading

Reading a good book is one of the most satisfying activities. Why? As we are taken to the events of the story, our own anxieties take a back seat, angst which may not even be necessary at all. Simply put, reading a good book, to some of us, de-stresses.

Good books waiting to be read have been piling up, as the call for the ink to flow for a striving writer beckons. Okay, in my case, it’s really the hot cup o’ coffee that beckons, foremost, before I can begin with my first sentence, be it for an articles, or a paragraph of a fiction I’ve been trying to get off my chest.

Reading with pleasure is a wonderful mental exercise. I’ve often been told and reminded never to read in bed but I have to admit that almost always, it’s the only way I can get to sleep. Not that I only read books to make me sleep. Far from that, for  great books have been my lifelong beloved best friends, but that too - books to make me sleep - when bouts of restlessness happen and sleep would not come.

What’s really nice is that the books nearest my bedside are all in the category ‘my favourite for bedtime.’  No, they’re not Jeffrey Archer’s books or any of my top nail-biters, otherwise I’ll be up until the wee hours. My purpose is to get to sleep, a restful one, doesn’t matter if it’s four or three hours, but a good sleep. So, these easy-to-grab books are in the category I call “gentle” inspirational or spiritual prose I have pre-carefully chosen.

That’s right, light reading, a reading with pleasure

Thank you for sharing your reading enjoyments, along with your readling life with your husband. You’re a terrific caring wife, and I hope your hubby’s doing very well with his sight now.
